Maccabi Haifa, 2nd in the Israeli top flight, registered a 2-2 draw on Sunday away at 3rd-placed Hapoel Tel Aviv, however away from the ramifications of the result was a mad incident which occurred in the final moments of the game.
With seconds remaining of the clock, ref Liani got into a quarrel with Haifa’s Avihai Yadin, which ended with the official pressing foreheads with the footballer before he pushed him aside with a strong forearm.
After the match Yadin fumed against the treatment of the referee, telling reporters: “Referees are forbidden to touch players. The ref needs to be banned by the Israeli Football Association.”
