According to the online presence of pre-selected World Cup referee Ali Hamad Al Badwawi, FIFA Referees' Committee and FIFA Referee Department headed by Massimo Busacca will release the final list of referees for 2014 FIFA World Cup only one month before the tournament's start: in May 2014.
Contrary to earlier plans to reveal the names in January, Busacca has stated that he wanted to choose the best referees possible which required a longer period of the selection and observation process of the 50 officiating trios pre-selected. Furthermore, potentially injured referees had the chance to recover from it, Busacca posited.
