Ali Al-Badwawi will miss Club World Cup

Bad news for Asian refereeing: Ali Hamad Al-Badwawi of the UA Emirates will again miss an important FIFA tournament on his road to World Cup 2014 in Brazil currently being one of 50 referees chosen on the short list for the World Cup.

Having already failed to participate in 2013 Under-17 World Cup in his home country, Al-Badwawi and his teammates Saleh Al-Marzouqi and Mohamed Al-Mehairi will miss FIFA Club World Cup 2013 held in Morocco. According to his homepage, Al-Badwawi's injury has cropped up again so that physiologists have advised him to not join this tournament. He furthermore expressed his hope of being nominated for the World Cup by FIFA's Referee Committee despite his absence in two tournaments. It has not been announced who is going to replace Al-Badwawi at December's Club World Cup.
Moreover, it was stated that AFC would have "4+1" places on the final referee list for the World Cup (four referees and one standby official acting as fourth official), which very likely counts for CAF and CONCACAF, too.
